📦 What is this software?

⚠️ Risk & Real-World Impact

🔴

Worst Case

Complete compromise of industrial control systems in mirrored networks, allowing attackers to manipulate critical infrastructure operations, cause physical damage, or disrupt essential services.

🟠

Likely Case

Unauthorized network access to mirrored systems, potential configuration changes, data exfiltration, or disruption of industrial operations.

🟢

If Mitigated

Limited impact with proper network segmentation and monitoring, though some risk remains if mirror ports are used.

🌐 Internet-Facing: MEDIUM
🏢 Internal Only: HIGH

🎯 Exploit Status

Public PoC: ✅ No
Weaponized: UNKNOWN
Unauthenticated Exploit: ⚠️ Yes
Complexity: LOW

Attack requires network access to the mirror port. No authentication needed to exploit the vulnerability.

🛠️ Fix & Mitigation

✅ Official Fix

Patch Version: Check Siemens advisory for specific firmware versions

Vendor Advisory: https://cert-portal.siemens.com/productcert/html/ssa-908185.html

Restart Required: Yes

Instructions:

1. Review Siemens advisory SSA-908185. 2. Identify affected device models and current firmware versions. 3. Download appropriate firmware updates from Siemens support portal. 4. Apply firmware updates following Siemens documentation. 5. Restart devices after update completion.

🔧 Temporary Workarounds

Disable Mirror Ports

all

Disable port mirroring functionality on affected devices if not required for monitoring.

Consult device-specific CLI or web interface documentation for mirror port configuration commands

Network Segmentation

all

Isolate mirrored networks from production networks using firewalls or VLANs.

🧯 If You Can't Patch

  • Disable all mirror port configurations immediately
  • Implement strict network segmentation between mirrored and production networks
  • Monitor network traffic for unusual activity on mirror ports
  • Restrict physical and network access to affected devices

🔍 How to Verify

Check if Vulnerable:

Check device configuration for enabled mirror ports. Review firmware version against Siemens advisory.

Check Version:

Consult device-specific CLI commands (typically 'show version' or similar) or web interface

Verify Fix Applied:

Verify firmware has been updated to patched version. Confirm mirror port configurations are properly restricted.

📡 Detection & Monitoring

Log Indicators:

  • Unauthorized traffic patterns on mirror ports
  • Configuration changes to mirrored devices
  • Unexpected network traffic from mirror port interfaces

Network Indicators:

  • Traffic from mirror ports to production networks
  • Unusual protocol activity on mirrored segments
  • Suspicious packets originating from monitoring infrastructure

SIEM Query:

source_interface:"mirror*" OR port_mirroring:true AND (dest_ip:production_network OR protocol_anomaly:true)
